We all say it, “New Year, New Me!” Well as I look back over my personal life, my business, and my work I can truly say that I have grown but I am pretty much the same old me and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. At my core, I am still the person that I have always been. I enjoy laughing and having a good time. An artist, true and true, even to a fault. Emotional and sensitive, yet cold and abrasive at times. I care about others even to the detriment of myself and my own wellbeing sometimes and even in those moments I would still say that it was worth it. As it feels I am opening a new chapter in my life, with a few major changes and some serious life lessons learned, I wanted to celebrate me in the only way I would tell anyone else to celebrate, with a bad ass boudoir session! That’s right, I did one too and it wont be the last! You can expect one every year from here on out, because as difficult as it is to look at your own flaws in the editing room, I feel incredibly proud of myself and these portraits!
If you would have told me 3 years ago that I would be where I am today—guest blogging about a super-sexy boudoir photoshoot that rocked my world for the better— I think I would have laughed you out of the room.
See, three years ago I was a staunchly faithful, Mormon woman living in the heart of Utah—a place the locals call, “Happy Valley”. For anyone unfamiliar with Mormonism, it’s a shortened term for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, or LDS Church.
When most people think of Mormonism, they think of TV shows about polygamy, like “Big Love,” “Sister Wives,” or “Three Wives, One Husband”. Polygamy is practiced in sects that branched off of the original Mormon Church, but luckily for me it wasn’t practiced in the “mainstream Mormon” world I grew up in.
If you have followed my work for any extended length of time, you have probably seen the above image a million times. This was from my second boudoir session and it was the moment that I realized that I wanted boudoir to be my passion! I realized in this image that I was capable and could help women realize their beauty by letting them see themselves the way that I saw them. I coined the phrase “see yourself through someone else’s lens” because that is truly what most of us ladies deal with, only seeing ourselves from our point of view and all of the negative thoughts that we have created come right along with that. I realized that by shooting these boudoir session, I could give other women new perspective on themselves, fight against all of the terrible things that we think about ourselves and also give women new found confidence in the sweet support and comments from those who follow my work. If it weren’t for this session, I am not sure that I would be doing boudoir photography, so thank you to Caroline for trusting me with something that would help build the way to such an amazing career (that is just getting started!)
LaTisha reached out to me years ago about working on a portrait session and we finally got around to it! She came to my studio, here in Raleigh NC and rocked it! This amazing woman showed up and showed out! Her natural beauty is almost overwhelming. She posses the kind of charm and warmth that people just gravitate towards. The coolness that just surrounds her is what most of us wish we had. All of these attributes, I believe come through in her boudoir session.
So you’re pregnant and either you feel INCREDIBLY sexy in your new body or you’re a little unsure, either way, you’re curious. Well it’s time to find out what Maternity boudoir is all about! When it comes to taking portraits of women, I take the task very seriously. When it comes to my soon-to-be mamas, I take it to the next level! Pregnant women deserve to feel sexy too! You’re body is doing something incredible and you should be celebrated for it and leave feeling like the sensual goddess we all know you are ( I mean, HELLO! You’re pregnant! We all know how that baby got in there…) what better way to find out than a boudoir session?! Below is a compilation of Maternity boudoir portraits I took in studio! Leave these gorgeous women some love in the comment section and reach out to me with any questions you may have about doing a Maternity Boudoir or Boudoir session yourself!
This gorgeous Bride to Be reached out to me to capture her Bridal Boudoir before she said “I Do” to her future hubby! Stunning and breathtaking just aren’t words strong enough to capture this amazing woman’s spirit. She came into the studio and completely lit up the space. I like to think that these portraits completely captured that! If her photos inspire you and you are thinking about doing a boudoir session yourself, reach out to me below and make sure you leave her some love in the comment section, because every woman deserves to know how beautiful they are!
Lauren was my first boudoir session out of the new studio in Raleigh NC! She came in, she rocked it out and I have been bragging about the portraits ever since! Lauren works in the wine industry and is a woman of good taste with a strong flavor palate. She is truly stunning and her confidence just pours (pun intended) out of these photos! She showed up with two perfect bodysuits, bright blue heels and a strong red lip. The rest is history... I know you are going to love these portraits as much as I do! Leave her some love in the comment section and reach out to me if you are interested in trying boudoir yourself!
Stephanie was an ABSOLUTE blast and popped in to The Studio in Holly Springs, North Carolina with confidence blazing! As soon as the camera came out she was putting in work! Between a cathedral length veil, AH-MAZING Betsy Johnson heels, the perfect bodysuit from The Bralette Co and her now hubby's t-shirt, Stephanie strutted her stuff and we made shit happen! She is literally brains (YAS Mrs. Scientist!) and beauty on 10! You all know how much I love a smart woman who has confidence and Stephanie just glittered in both. A woman with a full sexy figure and the rare skin condition, Vitiligo, she made it a point to make sure I kept her true to life. This is the body that her new husband knows and loves, the same one that she loves too!
Candace is a wonderful woman who was getting married and in need of a quick gift to give to her future hubby! I reached out to my homie, Kassy for help with hair and makeup and we spent the morning glamming and posing! Candace was just so awesome to work with. Her confidence just filled the room and it was hard not to leave this session feeling on top of the world #contagiousconfidence. This woman has energy for days and was not shy about how much she loved her life! We rolled through this session and made sure to produce classy portraits that we just knew her fiance would love! Good thing we worked quick, because someone decided to come home early. Which leads me to an important note: Dear Gents, if your wife/girlfriend/life partner is purchasing new lingerie and kicks you out of the house for the day, trust her, haha! She's with me and you will thank her later for it!
Sarah is many things. A brilliant woman in tech, web designer, hilarious, athletic and sexy are just a few ways to describe her. I met her at her home in Raleigh and instantly connected with her. She is a strong woman in a male dominated industry and proud of it. She even takes time out of her schedule to speak with young women and girls that are interested and motivated to join the Silicon Valley of the South. I was inspired by how comfortable she was in her own skin, just being herself. Sarah's session was an amazing way to start off 2018!
I joined Becky + Matt at Dorthea Dix Park in Downtown Raleigh NC for their engagement session! We were prepping for the their October wedding so what better way than to shoot in the pretty tree covered area surrounding Downtown Raleigh? I’ve known these two for a couple of years now and one thing that made me want to work their wedding is that they just make sense. There is something about their love that is contagious and it really comes through in their portraits.
You all may remember Ana + Tim from our engagement session we did together at their wedding venue, Mason Ridge in Liberty, NC. Well, their big day finally came and man was it one for the ages! I had been in the Pacific Northwest celebrating my birthday, flew in to NC at 3a and woke the next day ready to capture this amazing couple say “I do” to each other.
I woke up extra early in the AM to capture these bright-eyed love birds in Mebane NC, on Dillon’s family property. I met this beautiful couple at Megan’s sister’s wedding and was extremely excited when they reached out to me to capture theirs! These two are so down to earth and a complete blast to be around! Everything is a good time with them and nothing is too much to let roll off their backs, everything a photographer wants out of their wedding couple! Enjoy this sweet session and make sure to leave a comment of love below!
I am so lucky that Tim + Amy wanted to work with me! My biggest rule with working with wedding couples is that I have to feel like it is really about the love, not the wedding and these two are the epitome of true and honest love. It's an honor that they have let me in on their decade long romance and I am so excited that I get to capture their big day! Enjoy Amy + Tim as they explore Mason Ridge and be sure to leave them some love in the comment section!
You probably remember Ashley from a number of my portrait sessions in the past! A few months ago we met up for her Bridal Portraits in JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh NC. We couldn't have asked for a more perfect day. Ashley was a stunner in her blush ball gown and definitely drew the attention of onlookers.
Working with so many brides, I find myself having to give out tips on ways to make their wedding days easier on them. I have collected all of these ideas from working with some pretty great companies and recently I got to experience Basic Invite!
Christina and Christopher have to be the sweetest couple I have seen in awhile. I joined them for the Mad Dash Wedding at the Leslie-Alford-Mims House in Holly Springs NC. The way that Christopher looks at Christina just takes your breath away. A man of few words and quiet emotions, his love for her just pours out of him. Christina has clearly found the love of her life in Christopher and these two couldn't be more perfect for each other!
Amanda and Grant are getting married super soon! I was pleased that they chose Nine19 Photography to capture their engagement photos at Shelley Lake here in Raleigh NC! Their sunset session was full of romance and silliness. These two are clearly perfect for each other and we had a blast as they frolicked through the forest and around the lake. These two make one hell of a team and I am so excited for them and their future together!
I have waited SO long to take these engagement portraits! Kristin and Kenny booked me and we have all been waiting patiently for this session.
Why have a boring old Christmas Card when you can have an epic one?! I met up with Monet, Emerson and Remington for their Holiday Portrait session at Boxcar Arcade + Bar in Raleigh NC and it was freggin’ amazing! You may remember Monet and Emerson from their Holiday Portraits from last year and this year we decided to do something a little different and man did it come out awesome! We decided to take advantage of Raleigh’s need to be incredibly pet friendly (uh, hello, there is an entire generation not having kids, so of course Raleigh has to be pet friendly!) and bring Monet + Emerson’s newest edition, the most adorable yet largest puppy to ever exist, a Great Dane named Remington! He came along for the ride and made all the new friends at Boxcar. We had such a wonderful time playing skee-ball and drinking all the beer.
These sisters were so amazing to work with! I knew Ebony through my husband and had met a couple of her sisters throughout the years, but this was the first time I was able to meet all of her sisters all at once and it was everything I had imagined putting all of these dynamic women in one space would be. We met up at JC Raulston Arboretum in Raleigh NC for their portraits and took this park by storm. I had such an amazing time working with these beauties, individually and in groups. Enjoy Lou’s Crew and be sure to leave them some love in the comment section!
Mary is a return client of mine who has become an amazing friend! This year she is turning 30 and decided the best way to celebrate was to document her in all of her glory! We headed over to the North Carolina Museum of Art and let the art speak for her zeal for life. We had awesome time and the weather could not have been any better. Please enjoy these portraits and be sure to wish Mary a very happy thirtieth birthday!
You know those moments when the day is just perfect. Your significant other just looks incredible, your heart is so full it could explode. You just want to capture the moment and bottle it up for the next time your heart needs it. That moment in a film, the sun is setting, the main characters just gaze in each other's eyes, smiling back in forth, hair bouncing in the wind, warm grass at their backs. You know the exact moment I'm talking about, it's always in slow motion with sappy indie music playing in the background. These portraits, they are that moment. My special moment. How lucky am I to be able to freeze them in time?
Nisha, Paul, Louis and their pup Nitro met me at the American Tobacco Campus in Downtown Durham #DURM for their early morning family portrait session. I met the amazing Nisha through her equally amazing sister, Saleisha, who also joined us. I did Saleisha's headshots downtown Raleigh and she made sure that her sister booked with Nine19 Photography too! It was awesome seeing these two sisters interact as well as seeing Nisha's love for the three gentlemen in her life! Paul and Nisha just have such an easy love. You can tell they are best friends as well as lovers. Louis, her son, is such a well rounded young man who loves academia and sports. Of course, there is Nitro, a loving and sweet rescue who clearly adores his people. It was such a pleasure spending time with this amazing group! I cannot wait to continue to document them as they change and grow together!
This family have been with Nine19 Photography since year one! To see how they have changed and grown over the past few years has been an honor to watch. Terry reached out to me about capturing her changing family this holiday season and I was ecstatic. It used to be just four of them with two fur babies (not pictured this year) but now there are three families with two twinning toddler cuties!
You may remember Tina, Trey, Leo, and Athena from the dozens of portrait sessions we have done together. The Stantons are seriously ride or die when it comes to my photography and I am about that life! We started this journey with Leo's announcement on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill's (#LETSGODUKE) campus and we decided to go back there for their completed family portraits, a couple of years later. I didn't burn up as soon as I walked onto the campus, so all was well there. We gathered up some epic leaves as student ran from their building to prepare for finals and captured some pretty awesome shots. So much has changed with this family and it has been amazing to go along for the ride. I am so thankful for these four!
Monet and Emerson are new clients of mine and man oh man are they a blast! We met at the world famous Back Achers Christmas Tree Farm in Raleigh NC for a morning holiday portrait session! These two are getting married in a few weeks and their love is evident. The flirtation was unreal. Just watching these two, it was clear they have a magnetism for each other. Monet travels a bit for work and Emerson is in the military, so they miss time together often, but they are proof that absence makes the heart grow fonder! And can we please talk about how these two are clearly ready for the Patagonia catalog! Get ready to swoon over Monet and Emerson's holiday portraits!
Adrianna is my best friend of 13 years and Nate is her best companion. Adrianna saved Nate's life after a negligent human left him for dead on the side of the road. When I first met Nate, he was a tiny pup, I remember him being almost as small as a rat terrier when I first met him and him being deathly afraid of just about everyone. He also had serious skin issues. Adrianna spent years trying to figure out what he was allergic to and well, spoiler alert: EVERYTHING. Nate was on all kinds of meds and because of that, never really had a huge appetite and he slept a ton. Now here he is, 7 years later! Thanks to a miracle medicine, Nate is the handsome pup we always new he could be, he is putting on weight, and is just so incredibly happy. These two, I believe, saved each other and their bond can never be replaced.
Ashley, Eric, Sampson, and their newest addition, Sir Winston joined me at Back Achers Christmas Tree Farm in Raleigh NC for their first Holiday Portrait session as a complete family! These guys are just a good looking group! Winston has been with the family for a couple of months and is learning so much from his brother Sampson. Ashley and Eric are getting married soon and I am just excited about all of it! We had such a great time at the farm! The pups thoroughly enjoyed the wildlife and, of course, the birds. German Shorthaired Pointers, or GSPs, are a hunting and sporting breed and if you look closely at some fo the portraits, these guys are clearly on top of their game.
Monica and Lorenzo were welcoming their second child, a sweet baby girl, and wanted to celebrate with a stunning set of maternity portraits. We went out to Durham, North Carolina for her session and chose the Sarah P. Duke Gardens as the perfect location. Monica was glowing in her burgundy gown and set the tone for the entire session. We had so much fun and their son was the most entertaining 7 year old I have ever worked with! I hope you all enjoy their session and please leave them some love in the comment section!
The best part of my job is when I get to capture beautiful portraits of family! My sister in law is an amazing woman who juggles work and home life like a champ. She and her hubby, Chas, also makes some of the worlds most adorable children and I get to watch them grow and change into the worlds most amazing little people. When we found out that they decided to have another little nugget, I couldn't handle it. I literally started planning all of the portrait sessions, immediately and well we accomplished this one, haha. Everyone welcome to the planet, Benton Nicholas weighing in at 8lbs and 5oz. Enjoy these portraits and make sure you leave them some love in the comment section!
I don't think I can explain my excitement when I found out the day had come to finally meet Athena! This precious little girl was ready to make her appearance at North Carolina Women's Hospital in Chapel Hill NC and we were ready to meet her. Her mom and my closest friend Tina had been induced and feeling super confident about handling this labor. She called me and we talked for about an hour or so, she headed to the hospital and a few hours later, she texted me and told me to come!
We went out the following Sunday morning and created the Jordan Lake Session 2.0. Nishelle literally looked like the goddess of motherly love and also a swimsuit super model all in one. The first thing she expressed was how unsure she was of posing, but as soon as I lifted my camera, she became fierce. I instantly was blown away by her confidence. She rocked this session and the portraits show! I hope you enjoy these portraits as much as I do...
If you follow my work, you know that I have been following Jamie and Anthony since their first announcement of having a baby until this special moment when we finally got to capture the pure joy and perfection that is Cheyenne. This may be one of the prettiest babies I have ever scene and literally, incredibly photogenic.
He's got the power, he's got the speed
To be the best in the National League
Well this is the year and Charlie Clark (& Addison) is real
So come on down to Wrigley Field...
HAHA, okay okay, I tried. Seriously though, this kid has the power and the speed. I woke up around 730a to a text from his Aunt Lindsay saying that Laura went into labor at around 4am. I told her to let me know when she was 6cm and she responded with "um, SHE IS!" I hopped in the shower and took the hubs to work and received an update that said "And now she is getting ready to push". UM WHAT?! Charlie Clark, got here in quite the hurry.
ou may remember Jamie and Anthony from a previous session at JC Arboretum near NCSU. I was fortunate enough to help them announce that they were expecting. We had so much fun at our fall session and they made me wait several months before we got to shoot Jamie's maternity session. Jamie spent the morning getting dolled up and drove out to Shelley Lake to take pictures at one of my favorite trees!
Last year, I had the pleasure of taking portraits for David + Shelby (engagement + wedding!). If you look close enough you will see these two awesome people in those photos! After celebrating such a wonderful time with Jamie's brother, David, I was extra excited when Jamie and Anthony told me that there was even more to celebrate... A BABY! This family keeps getting bigger and it's literally the best thing ever!
